The Music Lives On at Salem & Catalpa!
Many of you will remember the former Troutman Recording Studios at the corner of Salem & Catalpa, where the Troutman brothers made hip-hop, R&B, funk and other urban productions throughout the 1980s. The Phoenix Project, a partnership of Good Samaritan Hospital, the City of Dayton, and CityWide Development Corporation, its manager, acquired and landscaped three corners of this busy intersection, providing a beautiful gateway to the Dayton View Triangle and Fairview neighborhoods.
Musical legend Roger Troutman [1951-1999] will once again play a starring role in a unique production being undertaken here. Local artist Michael Bashaw will co-star with the creation and installation of a large outdoor sound sculpture that will celebrates the revitalization taking place in this area as well as the musical legacy of Roger Troutman.
We are asking music and art lovers to consider giving a small tax-deductible contribution toward this public art project. You may donate securely online at www.daytonfoundation.org – click the “Donate Online” button and type in the fund name – The Music Lives On! Fund – or fund number 7180 to contribute with your credit card (minimum $25). All gifts will receive an acknowledgement. If you prefer to mail a check for any amount, or for more information, contact Jill Hamilton at (937) 275-1222 or by email at jill937@msn.com. Thank you for your support!
New System Replaces CodeRED: Sign Up for Emergency Alerts
If your neighborhood had to be evacuated because of a hazardous material leak, how would you find out about it? If there were an Amber Alert issued for a missing child near your home, would you want to be notified? Montgomery County's Regional Dispatch Center, which serves the city of Dayton, now has the Everbridge® Emergency Notification System for such situations. If your phone number is listed in the white pages of the telephone directory, you are already included in Everbridge® system. However, residents and businesses with cell phones or non-listed numbers
need to register in order to receive emergency notifications. This service is replacing the CodeRED® system that the City of Dayton previously used for emergency notifications; if you were registered with CodeRED®, you will need to register now with Everbridge®. Click here to register for Everbridge®.
Recycling Matters!
The City of Dayton continues to make recycling easier for residents, with plans to further expand the 96-gallon Big Bin recycling program. If your neighborhood isn't yet in the Big Bin program, or if you prefer a smaller bin, you can get a 32-gallon container by calling 333-4800. For further information on this and other recycling matters, read Recycling Questions & Answers. November 13 is America Recycles Day, with special activities planned at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. Remember, the more we recycle, the more tax dollars we save!
